Any current practitioner or student of dental informatics should take a minute to appreciate the life work of Dr. Mark Diehl, who passed away earlier this year (http://www.ada.org/en/publications/ada-news/2016-archive/may/standards-pioneer-ada-volunteer-dies).
Dr. Diehl has been a central figure in dental informatics since its inception. It is well worth the time of all those interested in informatics to read his papers and publications, including the important recent work that he supervised in ADA standards groups.
I was fortunate enough to meet and speak with Dr. Diehl at a number of dental meetings. He was a patient, insightful, thoughtful, and supportive man that moved our profession forward in a number of important ways.
